In mid-2017, two Australian students found themselves on a study program in Uganda.
Inspired by the energy and people of this beautiful country, they started something to give back. They created Bugisu Project, hoping to answer one question: can coffee inspire change?
By late-2018, Bugisu coffee drinkers were no longer just friends and family, but hundreds of Sydney-siders in Australia’s top workplaces. The team had expanded from two, to four, to six. Partnerships blossomed, and momentum grew. Our first steps had taken us down a path we wanted to follow.
We were no longer a ‘project’. So, in May 2019, we became Kua.
Kua is a social enterprise. We do circular, fair coffee. We’re not just a project and we’re not just a coffee company. We work with people and planet to inspire change.
Where did your morning coffee come from? Where will it end up? As Australians, our everyday consumption habits are disconnected from their social and environmental impact. The harmful effects are hidden, but new models can spark positive change. Consumption can drive social impact. Waste can become new products. After all, the big picture is made from many small decisions.
